According to Pordata, workers in companies earned an average of €1,294 in 2021 in Portugal. The highest-paying sectors were the energy, water, financial, and insurance industries. However, these sectors did not contribute the most to the country’s overall wealth, as revealed on International Workers’ Day.

The groups that earn salaries above the national average are the representatives of legislative power and executive bodies, intellectual and scientific professions, and intermediate-level technicians. Notably, intermediate-level technicians and health professionals earn slightly less than the national average by €108.

Within these groups, the best-paid positions are in management or executive roles. Starting with representatives of legislative power and executive bodies, senior managers of public administration, company directors, and managers, they earn an average salary of €3,577.

Other well-paid positions include directors of administrative and commercial services, who earn an average salary of €3,091, followed by directors of production and specialised services, earning €2,826. Technicians in legal, social, sports, and cultural services earn an average salary of €2,331.

Pordata also highlights that professions in the STEM areas (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) are among the best-paid, with salaries exceeding €1,850. Specialists in information and communication technologies (ICT) earn an average of €2,198, while specialists in finance, accounting, administrative organization, public relations, and sales earn €2,111. Specialists in physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering earn €2,019, and health professionals earn €1,869.
