Türkiye was placed third globally in terms of the number of beaches that have earned the Blue Flag certification for environmental friendliness.

The International Blue Flag panel has awarded the Blue Flag label to 551 beaches, 23 marinas, 14 tourism boats, and 10 individual yachts throughout Türkiye, according to the most recent statistics.

Spain came in #1 and Greece came in second among the nations with Blue Flag beaches. France and Italy came after Türkiye.

The Blue Flag certification is an exclusive international eco-label given to beaches and marinas after meeting certain criteria set by the International Foundation for Environmental Education, an independent non-profit organization in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Blue Flag certification is an international program implemented in 50 countries.

With a total of 231 Blue Flag eco-friendly beaches, the southern Turkish province of Antalya, which is frequently listed as one of the top travel destinations in the world, has maintained its position.

It was followed by the northwest Balikesir with 46 beaches, the northwest Izmir with 63 beaches, the northwest Mugla province with 110 beaches, and the southwest Aydin with 35 beaches.
