Turkish Airlines has been named the top exporter of services for the year 2022, according to the country’s flag airline.

According to a statement from the carrier, the company’s revenue from services exports was $15.8 billion last year, a significant rise of 70% from 2021.

On June 17, at a ceremony held in conjunction with the General Assembly of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TM) and the Export Champions Award Ceremony, President Recep Tayyip Erdoan gave the honor to Ahmet Bolat, the chairman of Turkish Airlines’ Board and Executive Committee.

Pegasus, a low-cost carrier, came in second on the list of top service exporters, ahead of SunExpress, GA Istanbul Airport, and airports operator TAV Havalimanlar.

Data from the Services Exporters’ Association (HB) show that Turkey’s total services exports increased by 47% in 2022 compared to the previous year, reaching $90.3 billion.

The nation’s services trade surplus increased by 56.6 percent to $49.8 billion.
The largest contribution to the industry came from the growth of passenger and freight transport services, which increased by 50%. Export income from the tourism sector increased by 55%.

Revenues from entertainment and cultural services increased by about 163% to $504 million. According to the HB statistics, exports of financial services totaled $732 million last year, a significant 47 percent rise from 2021.
Turkey’s total exports of services generated $43.2 billion in income in 2012; this figure surpassed $60 billion in 2014. The global pandemic’s negative impacts caused revenues to drop to $35 billion in 2020 before rising to $61.4 billion the following year.

TM also disclosed the biggest exporters of commodities. Top of the list in this area was the automaker Ford. The energy juggernaut Socar Türkiye and refiner Tüpraş came in second and third, respectively. Totoya Otomotiv, another automaker, was the fourth-largest exporter in 2017.
