World crude steel production for the 63 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 142.4 million tonnes (Mt) in February 2023, a 1.0% decrease compared to February 2022.

Crude steel production by region

Africa produced 1.1 Mt in February 2023, down 11.9% on February 2022. Asia and Oceania produced 106.6 Mt, up 3.0%. The EU (27) produced 10.5 Mt, down 12.6%. Europe, Other produced 2.7 Mt, down 24.9%. The Middle East produced 3.5 Mt, up 11.5%. North America produced 8.3 Mt, down 5.5%. Russia & other CIS + Ukraine produced 6.4 Mt, down 21.3%. South America produced 3.2 Mt, down 3.1%.

The 63 countries included in this table accounted for approximately 97% of total world crude steel production in 2022. Regions and countries covered by the table:

Top 10 steel-producing countries

China is estimated to have produced 80.1 Mt in February 2023, up 5.6% on February 2022. India produced 10.0 Mt, down 1.0%. Japan produced 6.9 Mt, down 5.3%. The United States produced 6.0 Mt, down 5.3%. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.6 Mt, down 8.6%. South Korea produced 5.2 Mt, up 1.1%. Germany produced 3.0 Mt, down 6.9%. Brazil produced 2.5 Mt, down 6.7%. Iran is estimated to have produced 2.4 Mt, up 14.6%. Türkiye produced 2.1 Mt, down 28.9%.
