Adjusted for court session days, the number of corporate bankruptcies has increased in the Netherlands. According to Statistics Netherlands, there were 71 more bankruptcies in May than the previous month (CBS). However, when compared to the period before to the coronavirus pandemic, the number of pronounced bankruptcies is still low.
The number of bankruptcies peaked in May 2013 (911), following which it steadily decreased until August 2017, when it stayed rather consistent until mid-2020. It subsequently resumed its downward trend, reaching its lowest point since the time series began in January 1981 in August 2021. Although the number of bankruptcies increased in May 2022 over the previous month, it remained low when compared to the period before to the coronavirus pandemic.
