In September 2023, Taiwan’s annual inflation rate rose for the third consecutive month to 2.93%, up from 2.52% the previous month and exceeding market expectations of 2.40%. It was the highest figure since January as prices increased more quickly across the board, particularly in the areas of housing, food, and transportation & communication (2.32% vs. 1.78%), which all had increases of more than 1%. After increasing by 0.18% in August, the CPI increased by 0.34% on a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, which was the highest increase since April.
