Switzerland, India To Share Tax Data, Conclude FTA
Officials from Switzerland and India have discussed the automatic exchange of tax information and free trade.
Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis met with Sushma Swaraj, the Indian Minister of External Affairs, in Delhi.
The ministers welcomed the entry into force this year of the agreement on the automatic exchange of tax information. Switzerland and India signed a joint declaration on this issue in 2016 and the first exchanges are expected to take place in 2019.
According to the Swiss Federal Council, the agreement “is expected to bring an end to recurrent allegations of Switzerland harboring undeclared assets.”
Switzerland is also seeking a free trade agreement with India through its membership of the European Free Trade Association. India is Switzerland’s second-largest trading partner in Asia.
