Romania’s annual inflation rate quickened to 13.76 percent in April of 2022 from 10.15 percent in the prior month. This was the highest reading since February 2004, as prices of food products accelerated further, rising the most since December 2003 (13.54 percent vs 11.2 percent in March). Additional upward pressure also came from cost of both services (7.11 vs 6.50 percent), and non-food products (16.35 vs 10.90 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up by 3.74 percent in April, the most since July 2000, after a 1.9 percent rise in March.
