In August 2023, industrial production in Malta increased by 2.9% year on year, following a downwardly revised 2% gain the previous month, as production increased for intermediate goods (8.7% vs 5.0% in August), manufacturing (4.1% vs 3.2%), and capital goods (7.4% vs -1.7%). Furthermore, output of durable consumer products increased (33% vs 26%), but output of nondurable consumer goods decreased (-0.9% vs 3.8%). Meanwhile, energy output declined at a slower rate (-1.1% vs -3.2%). Industrial production increased 0.6% on a seasonally adjusted basis, following a 3.1% increase in July that was revised downward.

  • In August 2023, industrial output increased by 2.9 per cent when compared to August 2022.
  • The largest annual upward change in the industrial production was registered in the chemical and pharmaceutical products (14.9 per cent).
  • When compared to the previous month, total industrial production increased by 0.6 per cent.
