According to the ADEM (Employment Development Agency), the number of open jobs at Luxembourg’s unemployment agency reached a new high last month, as firms continue to struggle to fill vacancies, with more than 13,250 positions advertised at the end of May.

The number of job openings has increased by about 50% in the last year, illustrating the labor market’s difficulties as businesses compete for talent. ADEM has advertised a record number of available positions for the second month in a row, beating the previous peak set in April.

According to the most recent numbers from ADEM, the unemployment rate declined marginally to 4.6 percent, remaining at its lowest level in 13 years.

At the end of May, there were 13,946 registered job seekers, an increase from a month earlier, primarily due to the influx of Ukrainian refugees looking for work.

According to numbers presented at a news briefing by ADEM, skilled workers are still in short supply in practically every area of the economy.
