International trade in goods of Lithuania in May 2024

In May 2024, exports of goods amounted to EUR 3.23 billion, imports – EUR 3.51 billion. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to EUR 2.14 billion. The international trade in goods deficit amounted to EUR 275.2 million.

Over the month (May 2024, against April 2024) exports increased by 0.3 per cent, imports decreased by 1.3 per cent. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (10.1 per cent), ground vehicles (8.3 per cent), plastics and articles thereof (7.5 per cent). The decrease in imports was determined by decrease in imports of electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (10.8 per cent), miscellaneous chemical products (38.8 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (9.2 per cent). Mineral products excluded, exports and imports decreased by 1.6 and 3 per cent respectively. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 4.5 per cent, mineral products excluded increased by 1.6 per cent.

Over a year (May 2024, against May 2023), exports and imports decreased by 5.5 and 8.5 per cent respectively. A decrease in exports was determined by a decrease in exports of cereals (76 per cent), ground vehicles (26.8 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (17 per cent). The decrease in imports was determined by a decrease in imports of ground vehicles (28.3 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (17.8 per cent), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (14.2 per cent). Mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 8.7, imports – 11 per cent. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 3.7 per cent, mineral products excluded decreased by 3.4 per cent.

In January–May 2024, compared to the same period of 2023, exports decreased by 8 per cent, imports – 10.4 per cent. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of ground vehicles (28.7 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (16.6 per cent), cereals (26.6 per cent). The decrease in imports was determined by a decrease in imports of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (16.1 per cent), ground vehicles (24.3 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (13.9 per cent). Mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 8.9 per cent, imports – 9 per cent. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 1.2 per cent, mineral products excluded – 2.9 per cent.

In January–May 2024, the most important partners in exports were Latvia (10.6 per cent), Poland (9.8 per cent), Germany (8.1 per cent), while in imports – Poland (14.2 per cent), Germany (12.4 per cent), Latvia (8.1 per cent). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Poland (9.8 per cent), the Netherlands (9.5 per cent), Germany (9.4 per cent), Latvia (7.4 per cent), United States (6.3 per cent).

In January–May 2024, the largest share in exports fell within mineral products (14.9 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (13.6 per cent), products of the chemical and allied industries (11.3 per cent); while in imports – mineral products (19 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (17 per cent), products of the chemical and allied industries (12.6 per cent). As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within mineral products (20.8 per cent), miscellaneous manufactured articles (10.9 per cent), prepared foodstuffs, beverages and spirits, tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (10.3 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (9 per cent).
