The Latvian Stevedoring Company Association (LSA) hosted a meeting with Kazakh businessmen. Foreign businesses visited the Riga sea port and the Liepaja Special Economic Zone. The topic of collaboration between Latvia and Kazakhstan to strengthen the two nations’ transport corridor was discussed by the parties during this visit. They also talked about new possibilities on Eurasian transit roads and other corridors.
Timur Primbetov, the Kazakhstani ambassador to Latvia, and Uldis Reimanis, the deputy state secretary for Latvia’s ministry of transportation and the leader of the Latvian-Kazakh transport work group, both participated in the discussions and expressed support for bilateral collaboration.
The difficulties in establishing the Central Asian and European transport corridor and upcoming difficulties were discussed by representatives of LSA, businesspeople from the seaports of Ventspils and Lieapaja, and Latvijas Auto with the delegation of the Kazakh KAZLOGISTICS enterprise. They also talked about Latvia’s opportunities and involvement in creating such a corridor.
When it comes to freight exports, which are currently being worked on, businesses involved in the transit industry consider Kazakhstan as having a very high potential. Despite these extremely challenging geopolitical issues, it was nevertheless able to maintain Latvia’s transit sector’s competitiveness among the Baltic States thanks to the various freight shipments from Kazakhstan.
In the Central Asian region, Kazakhstan is a crucial ally for Latvia’s transport industry. When compared to the year before, the amount of freight moving between the two nations had nearly doubled in 2022. In addition to sending through freight delivered from the west to Kazakhstan, Latvia also enables the passage of cargo from Kazakhstan meant for the European Union and other nations.
The LSA cluster, which focuses on development, brings together stevedoring businesses from Liapaja, Ventspils, and Riga. To encourage and foster innovative collaboration and high-value services at Latvia’s sea ports, LSA implements a number of programs and initiatives aimed at the transit sector’s overall development. The Latvian Port, Transit and Logistics Council includes LSA as a member.
