According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the average monthly gross wages and salaries in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia were 1,548 euros, which is 6.9% more than in 2020. Wage growth recovered following a slowdown in 2020 and reached the pre-pandemic level.
Last year, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were again the highest in information and communication (2,804 euros), financial and insurance activities (2,568 euros) and energy (2,128 euros). Average gross wages were the lowest in real estate activities (1,132 euros) and accommodation and food service activities (916 euros).
The increase in average wages and salaries was the biggest in human health and social work activities (13.1%) and in trade (10.7%). There was a slower growth in wages in education (2.5%) and energy (0.5%).
Regionally, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were still the highest in Harju county (1,694 euros) and Tartu county (1,550 euros), and the lowest in Võru county (1,192 euros) and Hiiu county (1,194 euros). Year on year, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased the most in Lääne county (13.2%) and Hiiu county (12.3%), while average gross wages decreased in Põlva county (1.8%).
In the fourth quarter of 2021, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,625 euros, which is 7.3% higher than in the same quarter of 2020.
