In Switzerland, 40 188 businesses were founded in 2020. This represented 7.1% of all businesses active during the year. The vast majority of these businesses created from scratch employed only one person. This size class had the highest creation rate (10.7%). At the same time, these very small businesses are more vulnerable than larger ones. This results in higher exit rates and lower survival rates for new businesses compared with other size classes. These are the some of the results from the Federal Statistical Office’s (FSO) statistics on business demography (UDEMO).
