- Bangladesh’s share in German clothing imports up from 12.1% to 20.3% within 10 years
- Two-thirds of Germany’s clothing exports are re-exports
Clothing to the value of 27.8 billion euros was imported into Germany in the period from January to September 2023. Imports were therefore down 14.1% compared with the same period a year earlier. In the period from January to September 2023, more than half (53.3%) of Germany’s clothing imports came from three countries: China was the most important supplier country with a 21.2% share (5.9 billion euros) in total clothing imports to Germany, followed by Bangladesh with imports worth 5.6 billion euros (20.3% share) and Turkey with imports to the value of 3.3 billion euros (11.8% share). Compared with the same period a year earlier, imports of clothing from China declined by 20.7%, from Bangladesh by 16.9% and from Turkey by 10.6%.
