Household Domestic Tourism, Quarter IV: October-December and Annual, 2018
Annually, domestic trips increased by 1.7% compared to the previous year and reached to 78 million 523 thousand.
Domestic visitors spent 467 TL on average
In this quarter, domestic visitors made 76 million 796 thousand overnights. While average number of overnights was 6.6, average expenditure per trip was 467 TL.
In this year, total number of overnights decreased by 4.7% compared to the previous year and declined to 633 million 721 thousand. While average number of overnights was 8.1, average expenditure per trip was 513 TL in 2018.
Domestic visitors spent 5 billion 455 million 651 thousand TL
In this quarter, trip expenditures of domestic tourists decreased by 1.7% compared to same quarter of previous year and declined to 5 billion 455 million 651 thousand TL.
In this year, trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 14% compared to the previous year and reached to 40 billion 266 million 153 thousand TL.

Domestic tourism expenditures were composed of individual expenditures and package tour expenditures. In this quarter, while 95.8% of domestic tourism expenditure was individual with 5 billion 226 million 487 thousand TL,4.2% of it was package tour expenditures with 229 million 165 thousand TL.
Annually, while 91.3% of domestic tourism expenditure was individual with 36 billion 758 million 331 thousand TL, 8.7% of it was package tour expenditures with 3 billion 507 million 822 thousand TL.
Primary purpose of trip was “visiting relatives” with 69.2%
The secondary purpose of trip was “travel, leisure, holiday” with 16% and the third was “health” with 6.5%.
Annually, while “visiting relatives” was the primary purpose of trip with 64%, secondary purpose of trip was “travel, leisure, holiday” with 26.8% and the third was “health” with 4.6%.
Domestic visitors stayed mostly at house of friend and relative
In this quarter, according to number of overnights by type of accommodation, domestic visitors stayed mostly at “house of friend and relative” with 50 million 876 thousand overnights. While “own house” took second place with 16 million 597 thousand overnights, “hotel” took third place with 4 million 150 thousand overnights.
Annually, domestic visitors stayed mostly at “house of friend and relative” with 443 million 637 thousand overnights. “Own house” took second place with 101 million 464 thousand overnights and “hotel” took third place with 47 million 521 thousand overnights.
