In 2022, wage increases given by French employers should average 3.1%, predicts the WTW Group (Willis Towers Watson, previously Gras Savoye), which completed its annual worldwide compensation survey. It is a figure that is much greater than the trend over the last few years, even though it is significantly lower than the rise in prices. Average annual increases between 2010 and 2019 were no more than 2.5%, and in 2020—Covid-19—the number even decreased to 2%.
According to the report, businesses might consent to hikes of 3.3% on average in 2023. According to inflation projections, this amount “may potentially be revised upward in the fall to reach 3.5%, which would be the first time since 1985,” said Khalil Ait-Mouloud, director of the WTW compensation survey division.
The 3.1% average for this year naturally accounts for differences by industry, profession, and level of employment. For instance, earnings for specialists in cybersecurity, data, and digital are increasing considerably more quickly. Regarding pay generosity, the financial industry, innovative technologies (particularly semiconductor-related work), and fintech are positioned “at the top of the range.”
