For the first time since 2019, Belgium will issue government bonds. A bond issue is a method used by governments all over the world to raise funds from private individuals to help pay off public debts, for example.

According to the Federal Agency for Public Debt, the bonds will be issued with a 5- or 10-year investment term. However, it is still unknown how much interest will be paid on the bonds. On May 20th, this will be decided. Those interested in purchasing the bonds will be able to do so from May 24 to June 3rd.

Belgium issued government bonds for the last time in 2019. However, due to the relatively low interest rate offered on the bonds, only 0.55 percent, take up fell far short of expectations. The bond issue only raised about 4 million euros.
