Paying more than $4 for a gallon of gas was once considered a coastal problem faced by Americans in pricey big cities in some parts of the United States. However, for the first time, the average price of a gallon of gas in all 50 states has surpassed $4.

While the national average price has been at or above $4 for weeks, Georgia, Kansas, and Oklahoma have yet to do so.

They did, however, join the rest of the country this week, with a gallon of gas in Oklahoma costing about $4.01 on average. That is significantly less than the California average for a gallon of gas, which is $6.02.

Last week, the national average price of gas reached a new high amid high inflation and turbulence in the gas and oil markets, owing in part to the conflict in Ukraine.
