In November 2022, the euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 6.5%, stable compared with October 2022 and down from 7.1% in November 2021. The EU unemployment rate was 6.0% in November 2022, also stable compared with October 2022 and down from 6.5% in November 2021. These figures are published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
Eurostat estimates that 12.950 million men and women in the EU, of whom 10.849 million in the euro area, were unemployed in November 2022. Compared with October 2022, unemployment increased by 10 thousand in the EU and decreased by 2 thousand in the euro area. Compared with November 2021, unemployment decreased by 875 thousand in the EU and by 846 thousand in the euro area.
Youth unemployment
In November 2022, 2.880 million young persons (under 25) were unemployed in the EU, of whom 2.353 million were in the euro area. In November 2022, the youth unemployment rate was 15.1% in the EU and in the euro area, both up from 15.0% in the previous month. Compared with November 2021, youth unemployment increased by 180 thousand in the EU and by 157 thousand in the euro area.
Unemployment by sex
In November 2022, the unemployment rate for women was 6.4% in the EU, stable compared with October 2022. The unemployment rate for men was 5.7% in November 2022, also stable compared with the previous month. In the euro area, the unemployment rate for women was 7.0% and the unemployment rate for men was 6.1%, both stable compared with the previous month.
