More persons employed in services in Austria in the first half of 2023
Index of gross wages, salaries and hours worked grew as well
According to calculations by Statistics Austria, the number of employment relationships in the service sector rose by 2.2% in the first half of 2023, while in the trade sector they remained unchanged compared to the first half of the previous year.
Hours worked increased in the first half of 2023 compared to the first half of 2022 in both trade (+2.8%) and services (+3.1%). Gross wages and salaries also increased in both sectors during this period – by 6.8% in trade and by 9.8% in services. The index of gross wages and salaries refers to the total volume of gross wages and salaries, which is why the increase in employment relationships also increases this index.
