Consumer price inflation in Slovakia increased slightly in July but remained at its highest level in more than 20 years, according to data released by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic. The increase was mostly caused by higher gasoline and food prices.
Just above the 13.2 percent increase in June, the consumer price index increased by 13.6 percent year over year in July.
For the fifth consecutive month, consumer prices rose by double digits, and the statistical office said that the most recent inflation rate was the highest in more than 20 years.
In July, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages alone grew 19.1% annually, and transportation costs dramatically increased by 20.1% amid rising fuel prices.
Utility costs increased 16.1% in July over the same month last year, and restaurant and hotel costs increased 19.3%.
Consumer prices rose 0.8 percent on a monthly basis in July after rising 1.2 percent in June.
