INDUSTRIAL AND SERVICES PRODUCER PRICES IN ITALY – JANUARY 2024 / Q4 2023

Starting from the release of data referring to January 2024, Istat disseminates producer price indices for industry and construction with the new reference base year 2021=100.

In January 2024, compared with the previous month, industrial producer prices decreased by 1.7%. On domestic market producer prices decreased by 2.5%, on non-domestic market they decreased by 0.2%.

Over the last three months, compared to the previous three months, industrial producer prices decreased by 1.1% (-1.4% for the domestic market, -0.6% for the non-domestic market).

In January 2024, compared with January 2023, industrial producer prices dropped by 10.7% (-14.0% on domestic market, -1.5% on foreign market).

In January 2024, construction producer prices of Residential buildings and non-residential buildings stayed unchanged on monthly basis and decreased by 0.6% on annual basis. Construction producer prices of Roads and railways decreased by 0.1% compared to the previous month and by 3.0% on annual basis.

Over the last three months, compared to the previous three months, construction producer prices decreased by 1.0% for Residential buildings and non-residential buildings and by 1.2% for Roads and railways.

In the fourth quarter 2023, services producer prices increased by 0.4%, compared with the previous quarter, and by 2.3%, compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Warehousing and storage (+6.9%) and Rental and leasing of motor vehicles (+6.8%) recorded the highest increase on annual basis; the greatest decrease was registered in Sea and coastal water transport (-11.5%).
