Producer price indices – February 2025 in Czech Republic
“In year-on-year comparison, prices in industry decreased for the first time in a year, by 0.1%. On the other hand, prices of other producers continued to grow. Prices in agriculture accelerated their increase to 9.3%. Construction work prices were higher by 2.4% year-on-year and service producer prices in the business sphere by 3.5%,” noted Vladimir Klimes, head of Industrial and International Trade Prices Statistics Unit of CZSO.
Agricultural producer prices increased by 0.9% m-o-m. Rising were prices of fruit (+11.6%), cattle for slaughter (+3.1%), cereals (+2.4%), vegetables (+2.2%), oilseeds (+2.1%) and milk (+0.7%). Prices of pigs for slaughter (-6.3%), eggs (-4.1%) and poultry (-1.6%) decreased. Y‑o‑y, agricultural producer prices grew by 9.3% (+9.1% in January). In crop production, prices went up by 8.0%. Higher were prices of oilseeds (+24.7%), fruit (+21.2%) and cereals (+9.7%), while prices of potatoes (-21.5%) and vegetables (-24.0%) fell. In animal production, prices went up by 11.3%. Prices increased for eggs (+22.5%), cattle for slaughter (+19.0%) and milk (+17.8%). Decrease occurred in prices of pigs for slaughter (‑11.4%).
Prices of industrial producers fell by 0.1% m-o-m. Prices went down especially in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-0.3%), ‘basic metals’ (-0.9%) and ‘beverages’ (-1.1%). Prices increased in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+1.1%), ‘other mining and quarrying products’ (+1.8%) and ‘fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment’ (+0.2%). On the increase were also prices in ‘food products’ (+0.1%), especially in ‘bakery and farinaceous products’ (+1.3%) and ‘other food products’ and ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+0.6% both), prices decreased in ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-1.0%). Prices of industrial producers fell by 0.1% y-o-y (+0.5% in January). Prices went down particularly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices decreased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-1.6%), ‘coal and lignite’ (-8.0%) and ‘basic metals’ (-2.5%). Prices rose in ‘food products’ (+2.5%), especially in ‘dairy products’ (+12.5%), ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+1.3%) and ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (+7.0%). On the decrease were prices in ‘other food products’ (-2.0%) and ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-3.7%). Prices grew in ‘repair and installation services of machinery and equipment’ (+4.6%) and ‘motor vehicles, trailers and semi trailers’ (+1.2%). Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (+2.2%) and ‘capital goods’ (+2.0%) went up y-o-y, prices of ‘energy’ (-2.8%) went down. Prices of industrial producers excluding energy were higher by 1.1% (+1.5% in January).
Construction work prices, as estimated, increased by 0.2% and prices of materials and products used in construction were higher by 0.1% m-o-m. According to the estimate, construction work prices rose by 2.4% y‑o‑y (as in January). Prices of materials and products used in the construction were higher by 0.9% y-o-y (+0.8% in January).
Service producer prices in the business sphere increased by 1.7% m-o-m. Prices went up for ‘advertising and market research services’ (+16.2%), ‘programming and broadcasting services’ (+15.7) and ‘motion picture, video and television programme production services, sound recording and music publishing’ (+12.2%). Growth was recorded also in the prices of ‘security and investigation services’ (+6.6%), ‘postal and courier services’ (+4.4%), ‘employment services’ (+3.9%) and ‘insurance, reinsurance and pension funding services, except compulsory social security’ (+3.2%). Falling were prices of ‘services of head offices; management consulting services’ (-0.9%), ‘information services’ (-0.6%) and ‘land transport services’ (-0.3%). Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services rose by 0.8%. Service producer prices in the business sphere grew by 3.5% y-o‑y (+3.2% in January). Prices rose for ‘security and investigation services’ (+12.1%), ‘programming and broadcasting services’ (+11.0%), ‘employment services’ (+8.6%) and ‘advertising and market research services’ (+7.1%). Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services, increased by 3.2% (as in January).
Industrial producer prices in the EU – January 2025 (preliminary data)
According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices increased in January by 0.8% in EU27 (in December they rose by 0.4%), m-o-m. The highest increases were recorded in Ireland (+6.2%), Bulgaria (+5.4%) and Sweden (+2.3%). Prices were higher in Slovakia (+0.4%) and Czechia (+0.2%) and remained stable in Germany and Poland. Decreases were observed in Portugal (-2.2%), Austria (-0.6%), Slovenia (-0.5%) and Cyprus (-0.3%). Industrial producer prices rose in January by 1.8% (in December they went up by 0.1%) in EU27, y-o-y. The highest increases were recorded in Ireland (+14.9%), Bulgaria (+14.4%) and Denmark (+6.4%). Prices were higher in Germany (+0.6%) and Czechia (+0.5%) and lower in Slovakia (-2.7%), Austria (‑1.8%) and Poland (-0.4%). The largest decreases were observed in Lithuania (-5.3%), Luxembourg (-4.7%) and Estonia (-4.5%).
