Construction costs up year-on-year in August 2024 in Austria
In August 2024, the construction cost index for residential buildings was 4.3% higher than in August 2023, according to preliminary data by Statistics Austria. Costs increased by 3.4% in road construction, by 3.0% in bridge construction and by 3.6% in sanitary engineering within one year.
The construction cost index for construction of residential buildings stood at 128.4 index points in August 2024. Compared to August 2023, this corresponds to an increase of 4.3% (see table 1). Compared to July 2024, costs for construction of residential buildings decreased by 0.2% (see table 2). In civil engineering, costs also rose year-on-year in all sectors. The index for road construction reached 136.5 index points (+3.4% in annual and −0.3% in a monthly comparison). The index for bridge construction reached 130.0 index points, which represents an increase of 3.0% compared to August 2023, and a decline of 0.4% compared to July 2024. The index for sanitary engineering reached 132.4 points (+3.6% in annual and −0.2% in monthly comparison).
