According to new study from employment website Intermediair and the Nyenrode Business Universiteit, the salary difference between men and women has widened over the past two years after decreasing for decades.
According to the study, the average male earns 7.4% more than the average female in the Netherlands now, compared to just 5% two years ago. Over 23,000 respondents to the poll provided the basis for the outcomes.
Since 2021, the average wage increase for males has been 16.4%, but for women it has only been 9.1%, which is less than inflation.
The researchers discovered that men’s earnings increased more quickly than women’s salaries across all industries and levels, with men doing manual labor also more likely to improve their wages than a woman with a university or college degree.
The only industry where women make more money than males is the media sector, but the difference is only 2.5%.
Men currently make 22% more than women in the fields of IT and law, while the wage disparity in market research is 27%. The discrepancy, when converted to euros, can reach over €10,000.
The researchers speculated that women did not have the courage to demand as much pay as males but did not analyze why the pay gap has widened.
