According to the 1995-based data of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO), the Istanbul Wage Earners Livelihood Index, which is an indicator of retail price movements in Istanbul, increased by 5.46 percent in September compared to the previous month, while the Wholesale Price Index, which reflects wholesale price movements, increased by 3.94 percent.
When these data were analyzed on an annual basis, the rate of change was 73.18 percent in retail and 67.79 percent in wholesale prices.
In September, retail prices increased by 48.08 percent in other expenditures, 14.50 percent in clothing, 7.38 percent in culture, education and entertainment, 4.47 percent in household goods, 4.31 percent in food, 3.50 percent in health and personal care, 3.22 percent in housing, and 0.38 percent in transportation and communication expenditures compared to the previous month.
In September, wholesale prices increased by 7.28 percent in construction materials, 5.65 percent in foodstuffs, 5.15 percent in textiles, 2.77 percent in chemicals, 1.82 percent in fuel and energy, 1.30 percent in unprocessed materials and 0.60 percent in minerals compared to the previous month.
