Turkish express shipping service Getir will continue to operate in the Netherlands but will exit Spain, Italy, and Portugal, according to the company.
Rumours circulated that the company, which acquired German firm Gorillas last year, might abandon the Netherlands as part of a reorganization.
Getir will also continue to operate in Turkey, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, where it believes it has the most potential of success, according to the business. These five countries account for 96% of total revenue.
Getir’s retreat comes as the company faces a serious cash crisis and struggles to conclude a funding round that has been in the works for months, according to the website TechCrunch.
Zapp, a British rapid delivery company, left the Netherlands last year, claiming uncertainty caused by shifting rules and regulations regarding their distribution centers.
Because of concerns from residents about nuisance noise and traffic, the city council of Amsterdam, in particular, has limited the locations of rapid delivery service depots to less central industrial areas.
