According to the provisional data, produced with the cooperation of the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Trade, in June 2023; exports were 20 billion 904 million dollars with a 10.5% decrease and imports were 26 billion 64 million dollars with a 17.5% decrease compared with June 2022.
Exports decreased by 1.9% and imports increased by 4.1% in January-June 2023
In January-June 2023 period, exports were 123 billion 341 million dollars with a 1.9% decrease and imports were 184 billion 576 million dollars with a 4.1% increase compared with January-June 2022.

Exports, excluding energy products and non-monetary gold, were 19 billion 547 million dollars with a 10.4% decrease in June 2023. Imports, excluding energy products and non-monetary gold, were 19 billion 846 million dollars with a 10.9% decrease in June 2023.
Foreign trade deficit, excluding energy products and non-monetary gold, was 299 million dollars in June 2023.
Foreign trade volume was 39 billion 393 million dollars with a 10.6% decrease. Energy products and non-monetary gold excluded export coverage imports was 98.5%.

In June 2023, foreign trade deficit was 5 billion 160 million dollars with a 37.3% decrease compared with June 2022. In June 2023, exports coverage imports was 80.2%, while it was 73.9% in June 2022.
The foreign trade deficit increased by 18.7% in January-June 2023
In January-June 2023 period, foreign trade deficit was 61 billion 235 million dollars with a 18.7% increase compared with January-June 2022. In the same period, exports coverage imports was 66.8%, while it was 70.9% in January-June 2022.

In June 2023, according to economic activities, the ratios of manufacturing industries products, agriculture, forestry and fishing, mining and quarrying in total exports were 95.2%, 2.8%, 1.5%, respectively.
In January-June 2023 period, according to economic activities, the ratios of manufacturing industries products, agriculture, forestry and fishing, mining and quarrying in total exports were 94.7%, 3.3%, 1.5%, respectively.
The ratio of intermediate goods in total imports was 71.2% in June 2023
In June 2023, according to the BEC classification, the ratios of intermediate goods, capital goods and consumption goods in total imports were 71.2%,14.7%,14.0%, respectively.
In January-June 2023 period, according to the BEC classification, the ratios of intermediate goods, capital goods and consumption goods in total imports were 74.9%,13.3%,11.7%, respectively.

In June 2023, the main partner country for exports was Germany with 1 billion 784 million dollars. The country was followed by USA with 1 billion 331 million dollars, United Kingdom with 1 billion 65 million dollars, Italy with 1 billion 12 million dollars and Iraq with 986 million dollars. The ratio of the first five countries in total exports was 29.6% in June 2023.
In January-June 2023 period, the main partner country for exports was Germany with 10 billion 707 million dollars. The country was followed by USA with 7 billion 387 million dollars, Italy with 6 billion 163 million dollars, United Kingdom with 5 billion 997 million dollars, and Russia with 5 billion 815 million dollars. The ratio of the first five countries in total exports was 29.2% in January-June 2023.
The main partner for imports was China in June 2023
In June 2023, the top country for Türkiye’s imports was China with 3 billion 756 million dollars. The country was followed by Russia with 2 billion 912 million dollars, Germany with 2 billion 11 million dollars, Switzerland with 1 billion 313 million dollars, Italy with 1 billion 121 million dollars. The ratio of first five countries in total imports was 42.6% in June 2023.
In January-June 2023 period, the top country for Türkiye’s imports was Russia with 24 billion 734 million dollars. The country was followed by China with 22 billion 238 million dollars, Germany with 13 billion 439 million dollars, Switzerland with 11 billion 791 million dollars, USA with 7 billion 574 million dollars. The ratio of first five countries in total imports was 43.2% in January-June 2023.

In June 2023, while seasonally and calendar adjusted exports increased by 3.8%, imports decreased by 11.9% compared with previous month. In June 2023, calendar adjusted exports and imports decreased by 0.3%, 9.7% respectively compared with June 2022.
Ratio of exports of high-tech products in manufacturing industries was 3.1%
Foreign trade by technology intensity covers the manufacturing industries’ products in classification of ISIC Rev.4. According to the ISIC Rev.4, the ratio of manufacturing industries products in total exports was 95.2% in June 2023. The ratio of high-technology products in manufacturing industries exports was 3.1%. The ratio of manufacturing industries products in total exports was 94.7% in January-June 2023. In January-June 2023 period, the ratio of high-technology products in manufacturing industries exports was 3.6%.
The ratio of manufacturing industries products in total imports was 82.3%. The ratio of high-technology products in manufacturing industries’ imports was 10.4% in June 2023. The ratio of manufacturing industries’ products in total imports was 79.0% in January-June 2023. The ratio of high-technology products in manufacturing industries’ imports was 10.2% in January-June 2023.

According to the special trade system, in June 2023, exports were 19 billion 71 million dollars with a 12.1% decrease and imports were 24 billion 466 million dollars with a 16.1% decrease compared with June 2022.
In June 2023 foreign trade deficit was 5 billion 395 million dollars with a 27.9% decrease compared with June 2022.
Exports coverage imports was 77.9%, while it was 74.4% in June 2022.
Exports were 112 billion 404 million dollars in January-June 2023
According to the special trade system, exports were 112 billion 404 million dollars with a 4.6% decrease and imports were 173 billion 215 million dollars with a 3.0% increase compared with January-June 2022.
In January-June 2023 period, foreign trade deficit was 60 billion 811 million dollars with a 21.0% increase compared with January-June 2022.
Exports coverage imports was 64.9%, while it was 70.1% in January-June 2022.

EXPLANATIONS
Foreign trade statistics are calculated according to two different trade systems, general trade system and special trade system.In the general trade system, goods entering and leaving the economic area of a country are covered. In this system, free zones, customs warehouses and goods entering or leaving the free circulation area, which constitute the economic area of the country, are included in the calculations.In the special trade system, customs warehouses and free zones are not included in the statistics, only goods entering and leaving the country’s free circulation area are covered.
In this context, in order to ensure consistency with economic statistics such as balance of payments and national accounts calculations, foreign trade statistics, which is produced by Turkish Statistical Institute in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, have been published according to the general trade system in detail from January 2020. In addition, statistics according to the special trade system have been published in the press release and additional tables.
