In March 2023, compared to the same month of the previous year, the working-day adjusted retail trade turnover decreased in real terms by 1.3%. Out of that, the retail trade turnover of food, beverages and tobacco decreased by 3.2%, while the retail trade turnover of non-food products (except of automotive fuels and lubricants) increased by 1.7%.

In March 2023, the total seasonally and working-day adjusted deflated retail trade turnover of all business entities engaged in this activity, irrespective of their main activity, was in real terms 0.9% lower than in February 2023. Out of that, the retail trade turnover of food products decreased by 3.1%, while the retail trade turnover of non-food products (except of automotive fuels and lubricants) increased by 3.7%.

The largest impact on the increase in the nominal turnover in March 2023 compared to the same month of the previous year, according to gross, unadjusted indices, was recorded in the following trade branches: Non-specialised stores with food, beverages and tobacco predominating, with a rise in turnover of 14.5% and an impact on the total turnover of 5.1%, Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles, with a rise in turnover of 56.6% and an impact on the total turnover of 2.2%, and Other non-specialised stores, with a rise in turnover of 25.3% and an impact on the total turnover of 1.7%. Accordingly, the total gross retail trade turnover increased in nominal terms by 12.1% compared to the same month of the previous year.

A decrease in the nominal turnover in March 2023 compared to the same month of the previous year, according to gross, unadjusted indices, was recorded in two trade branches: Other non-store retail sale, with a fall in turnover of 6.8%, and Automotive fuels and lubricants, with a fall in turnover of 5.1%.
