In February 2023, the seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 1.5% in the euro area and by 1.4% in the EU, compared with January 2023, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In January 2023, industrial production increased by 1.0% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU.
In February 2023 compared with February 2022, industrial production increased by 2.0% in the euro area and by 2.1% in the EU.
Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State
In the euro area in February 2023, compared with January 2023, production of capital goods grew by 2.2%, nondurable consumer goods by 1.9%, intermediate goods and energy both by 1.1% and durable consumer goods by 0.2%.
In the EU, production of non-durable consumer goods grew by 2.4%, capital goods by 2.1%, energy by 1.2%, intermediate goods by 0.6% and durable consumer goods remained stable.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases were registered in Belgium (+6.1%), Luxembourg (+4.9%) and Greece (+4.8%). The largest decreases were observed in Slovenia (-3.6%), Finland (-2.3%) and Portugal (-2.0%).
Annual comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State
In the euro area in February 2023, compared with February 2022, production of capital goods rose by 10.4% and non-durable consumer goods by 3.3%, while production of energy fell by 3.3%, durable consumer goods by 3.5% and intermediate goods by 4.9%.
In the EU, production of capital goods rose by 10.3% and non-durable consumer goods by 5.8%, while production of energy fell by 4.2%, durable consumer goods by 5.1% and intermediate goods by 5.4%. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest annual increases were registered in Ireland (+25.3%), Malta (+17.1%) and Denmark (+15.7%). The largest decreases were observed in Estonia (-7.4%), Lithuania (-6.9%), Slovakia and Romania and (both -4.7%).
