Total Trade in Goods: November 2022 in MALTA
Data in this news release presents all international trade in goods registered up to the indicated cutoff date. Provisional data recorded a total trade in goods deficit of €331.9 million during November, compared to a deficit of €356.5 million in the corresponding month of 2021. Imports amounted to €785.3 million, while exports totalled €453.4 million, representing increases of €98.2 million and €122.8 million, respectively, over the same month of the previous year. The rise in the value of imports was primarily due to Machinery and transport equipment (€52.1 million), and Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (€27.1 million). On the exports side, the main increases were registered in Food (€50.6 million), Machinery and transport equipment (€31.4 million), and Miscellaneous manufactured articles (€19.3 million).
Total Trade in Goods: January-November 2022
During the first 11 months of the year, the total trade in goods deficit widened by €1,565.3 million when compared to the corresponding period of 2021, reaching €4,361.0 million. Imports and exports increased by €2,403.6 million and €838.3 million, respectively, amounting to €8,437.8 million and €4,076.8 million. Higher imports were mainly recorded in Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (€955.9 million), Machinery and transport equipment (€872.7 million), Food (€171.3 million), Chemicals (€154.7 million), Semi-manufactured goods (€118.9 million), and Miscellaneous manufactured articles (€95.0 million). On the exports side, the main increases were registered in Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (€366.7 million), Machinery and transport equipment (€303.2 million), Food (€112.8 million), Miscellaneous manufactured articles (€43.7 million), and Semi-manufactured goods (€33.8 million), partly offset by a decrease in Chemicals (€37.8 million)
Goods were imported mainly from the European Union (51.6 per cent) and Asia (19.5 per cent). Similarly, exports were mostly directed to the European Union (31.9 per cent) and Asia (19.8 per cent). The main increase and decrease in imports were registered from Italy (€323.3 million) and the United Kingdom (€63.2 million), respectively. With respect to exports, the main increase was directed to Germany (€81.4 million), whereas Egypt reported the highest decrease (€47.4 million).
Trade in Goods excluding specific chapters: November 2022
In November, the deficit of trade in goods excluding specific chapters amounted to €34.3 million, compared to a deficit of €122.7 million recorded in the same month of 2021. Imports and exports amounted to €381.4 million and €347.1 million, respectively, thus increasing by 10.1 per cent and 55.1 per cent over the corresponding month of the previous year.

During the first 11 months of 2022, the deficit of trade in goods excluding specific chapters widened by €419.2 million when compared to the same period of 2021, reaching €1,707.7 million. Imports and exports stood at €4,435.7 million and €2,728.0 million, respectively, representing increases of 26.0 per cent and 22.2 per cent.
