According to the State Statistical Office data of North Macedonia, the wholesale turnover by groups of products in 2021 was 499 242 231 thousand denars.
Within the division wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles, where 96.8% of the turnover in the total wholesale trade was generated, turnover from sales of pharmaceutical goods had the largest share (15.0%), followed by solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (fuel wood, hard coal, wood charcoal, lignite, motor spirit (gasoline), kerosene, gas oils, fuel oils n.e.c) (13.2%) and turnover from the sale of tobacco products (9.9%).
The turnover of sugar confectionery products, meat and meat products, dairy products, eggs, edible oils and fats, beverages, fruits and vegetables, coffee, tea, cocoa and spices together accounted for 24.3% of total wholesale turnover, except motor vehicles and motorcycles.
The turnover from the division trade of motor vehicles participated with 3.2% in the total wholesale turnover, and within this division, the turnover from cars and light motor vehicles (new and used) had a share of 54.0%, while the turnover from the sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories (tires, parts and accessories) accounted for 30.5%.
The retail turnover by groups of products in 2021 was 408 263 279 thousand denars. Within the division retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles, which generated 96.5% of the turnover in the total retail trade, turnover from the sale of automotive fuels had the largest share (17.1%), followed by turnover from the sale of tobacco products (6.5%), pharmaceutical goods (medicaments: pharmaceutical goods and preparations – vitamins, antibiotics, serums and vaccines – only for human use) (5.2%), other food products, n.e.c (5.2%), dairy products (4.5%), sugar confectionery (4.0%) and meat products (3.8%).
The turnover from motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts participated with 3.5% in the total retail trade turnover, where the biggest turnover was generated from the sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories in specialised stores (49.5%) and the sale of motor vehicles (new) in specialised stores (34.6%).
The retail trade turnover by regions was highest in the Skopje Region (62.0%), while the smallest retail trade turnover was recorded in the Southeast Region (3.7%).
The largest number of retail trade stores was registered in the Skopje Region (28.1% of the total number of stores), while the East Region had the fewest retail stores (7.1%).
