Entrepreneurship and Business Demography in Türkiye, 2021
The birth rate of enterprises in 2020 was 14.7% however it rises up to 16.0% in 2021. The employment share of enterprises born in 2020 was 5.0% however it rises up to 5.6%.
The highest birth rate for enterprises by sectors was in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector as 34.1%, for 2021. This sector was followed by transportation and storage with 17.3% and by manufacturing with 10.7% respectively.
The death rate of enterprises for the year 2019 was 12.1%
The death rate of enterprises in 2018 was 11.4% however it increases to 12.1%. The employment share of enterprises died in 2018 and 2019 was same as 4.3%.
The highest death rate for enterprises by sectors was in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector as 35.2%, for 2019. This sector was followed by accommodation and food service activities with 13.5% and by transportation and storage with 12.6% respectively.
Enterprises born in 2020 were survived in 2021 by 84.1%
The one-year survival rate of the enterprises born in 2019 was 80.6%, and the two-year survival rate was 66.9%.
Rate of high growth enterprises by employment in 2021 was 12.4%
For the same year, rate of gazelles was 2.2%.The rate of high growth enterprises by turnover was 17.6% in 2021, and the rate of gazelles was 2.6%.
In 2021, 32.3% of high growth enterprises by employment were in manufacturing sector, 20.9% of them were in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector and 14.8% of them were in construction.
In 2021, 32.5% of high growth enterprises by turnover were in manufacturing sector, 26.6% of them were in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector and 11.2% of them were in construction.
In 2021, 29.7% of gazelles by employment were in manufacturing sector, 18.4% of them were in construction and 12.9% of them were in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector.
In 2021, 28.4% of gazelles by turnover were in manufacturing sector, 18.1% of them were in construction, and 15.3% of them were in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector.
Enterprises born in manufacturing sector produced in low tech products with 60.7% in 2021
Enterprises born in manufacturing sector have medium-low tech products with 26.8%, medium-high tech products with 11.6% and high tech products with 0.9% in 2021.
Turnover share of enterprises in 2021 with foundation year 2016 and later were 20.5%
Turnover share of enterprises in 2021 was 16.0% with foundation year between 2011 and 2015.
Employment share of enterprises in 2021 with foundation year 2016 and later were 27.7%
Employment share of enterprises in 2021 with foundation year between 2011 and 2015 was 17.3%.
Export share of enterprises in 2021 with foundation year 2016 and later were 14.0%
Highest export share of enterprises in 2021 was 18.0% with foundation year 1990 and earlier.
Import share of enterprises in 2021 with foundation year 2016 and later were 9.0%
Highest import share of enterprises in 2021 was 33.1% with foundation year 1990 and earlier.
