In October 2022, the seasonally adjusted industrial production fell by 2.0% in the euro area and by 1.9% in the EU, compared with September 2022, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In September 2022, industrial production increased by 0.8% in the euro area and by 0.7% in the EU.

In October 2022 compared with October 2021, industrial production increased by 3.4% in the euro area and by 3.7% in the EU.

Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

In the euro area in October 2022, compared with September 2022, production of energy fell by 3.9%, durable consumer goods by 1.9%, intermediate goods by 1.3% and capital goods by 0.6%, while production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.3%.

In the EU, production of energy fell by 3.5%, durable consumer goods by 1.5%, intermediate goods by 1.2% and capital goods by 0.6%, while production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.2%.

Among Member States for which data are available, the largest monthly decreases were registered in Ireland (-10.7%), Luxembourg (-4.4%) and Czechia (-3.7%). Increases were observed in Slovakia (+1.3%), Lithuania (+1.1%), Greece (+0.5%) and Austria (+0.2%).

Annual comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

In the euro area in October 2022, compared with October 2021, production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 10.5% and capital goods by 9.2%, while production of durable consumer goods fell by 0.1 %, intermediate goods by 2.9% as well as energy by 8.7%.

In the EU, production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 11.4% and capital goods by 9.9%, while production of durable consumer goods fell by 0.8 %, intermediate goods by 2.5% as well as energy by 9.0%. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest annual increases were registered in Ireland (+53.2%), Denmark (+10.7%) and Malta (+7.2%). The larges decreases were observed in Estonia (-5.8%), Luxembourg (-3.8%) and Belgium (-2.8%).
