In the Q3 2022, sales in services in Czech Republic adjusted for calendar effects increased in real terms by 6.9%, year‑on-year (y-o-y). Seasonally adjusted sales increased in real terms by 0.2%, quarter‑on‑quarter (q-o-q).

Quarter-on-quarter, seasonally adjusted sales in services1) increased in real terms by 0.2%, in the Q3. The highest growth was reported by the CZ-NACE section of information and communication, whereas a decrease was reported by the section of accommodation and food service activities and by transportation and storage.

In the year-on-year comparison, sales increased in real terms by 6.9%. The y-o-y increase was recorded by all major activities of services (CZ-NACE sections) except for accommodation and food service activities.

“The year-on-year growth of sales in services slowed down from 112.1% in the Q2 to 106.9% in the Q3. As for activities classified to the section of accommodation and food service activities, there was even a year-on-year decrease by 5.9%,” Tomáš Harák, Head of the Services, Trade, and Environmental Statistics Data Support Unit of the CZSO, says.

Development in individual industries of services (CZ-NACE sections) was as follows:

  • sales in transportation and storage increased by 12.8%. Mainly sales in the following increased: in air transport (by 80.9%), in water transport (by 16.8%), and in warehousing and support activities for transportation (by 15.4%). Sales also increased in land transport and transport via pipelines (by 6.9%) and in postal and courier activities (by 0.6%);
  • sales in accommodation and food service activities decreased by 5.9%. In food and beverage service activities, sales decreased by 10.8%, whereas in accommodation sales increased by 8.8%;
  • sales in information and communication increased by 3.1%. The development of sales in computer programming, consultancy and related activities, which increased by 7.6%, contributed the most to the total growth. An increase of sales was also recorded by information service activities (by 6.1%), which include data processing, hosting and related activities; web portals and by telecommunications (by 3.5%). On the other hand, a sales decrease was recorded by publishing activities (by 0.5%), programming and broadcasting activities (by 23.1%), and in music and motion picture activities (by 25.2%);
  • sales in real estate activities increased by 3.8%, y-o-y;
  • in professional, scientific and technical activities2) sales increased by 2.3%. The highest sales growth was reported for the following: other professional, scientific and technical activities (by 10.7%) and for legal and accounting activities (by 6.7%). Sales increased by 5.8% for architectural and engineering activities; technical testing and analysis. Sales in activities of head offices; management consultancy activities increased by 1.1%. On the other hand, a decrease of sales by 13.1% was reported by advertising and market research;
  • in administrative and support service activities, sales increased by 17.8%. Travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities reported the highest sales increase by 95.6%. Sales in office administrative, office support and other business support activities increased by 6.8%, sales in services to buildings and landscape activities by 4.7%, sales in security and investigation activities by 2.7%. Sales in rental and leasing activities stagnated. A y-o-y decrease of sales by 12.8% was recorded by employment activities.
