Industrial producer prices up by 1.6% in the euro area and by 1.5% in the EU

In September 2022, industrial producer prices rose by 1.6% in the euro area and by 1.5% in the EU, compared with August 2022, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In August 2022, prices increased by 5.0% in the euro area and by 4.9% in the EU. In September 2022, compared with September 2021, industrial producer prices increased by 41.9% in the euro area and by 41.4% in the EU.

Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

Industrial producer prices in the euro area in September 2022, compared with August 2022, increased by 3.3% in the energy sector, by 0.9% for non-durable consumer goods, by 0.4% for capital goods and for durable consumer goods and by 0.1% for intermediate goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.4%.

In the EU, industrial producer prices increased by 2.6% in the energy sector, by 1.0% for non-durable consumer goods, by 0.4% for capital goods and for durable consumer goods and by 0.1% for intermediate goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.4%.

The highest monthly increases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Bulgaria (+9.2%), Slovakia (+8.9%) and Italy (+3.5%), while the largest decreases were observed in Ireland (-18.9%), Estonia (-3.9%) and Greece (-2.4%).

Annual comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

Industrial producer prices in the euro area in September 2022, compared with September 2021, increased by 108.2% in the energy sector, by 19.0% for intermediate goods, by 15.2% for non-durable consumer goods, by 9.8% for durable consumer goods and by 7.6% for capital goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 14.5%.

In the EU, industrial producer prices increased by 105.3% in the energy sector, by 19.1% for intermediate goods, by 16.5% for non-durable consumer goods, by 10.1% for durable consumer goods and by 7.9% for capital goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 15.0%. The industrial producer prices increased in all Member States, with the highest yearly increases being registered in Bulgaria (+78.2%), Hungary (+67.5%) and Romania (+62.9%).
