- 5.0% less start-ups of larger businesses compared with the pre-crisis level (January to August 2019)
- Number of small business start-ups 5.6% above the previous year’s level, but 17.5% below the pre-crisis level
- Complete business shutdowns increased by 7.6% from the same period a year earlier and decreased by 12.9% compared with the pre-crisis level
Between January and August 2022, just over 80,200 businesses were started in Germany whose legal form and number of employees suggest that they have greater economic importance. Based on an evaluation of business notifications, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decrease of 6.6% compared with the same period a year earlier, which was heavily impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. The number of larger businesses started was down 5.0% compared with the pre-crisis level (January to August 2019).
