The European energy crisis and inflation have prompted the Albanian government to make a number of choices, including raising the minimum wage, pensions, and salaries for public employees.
The minority of consumers who use more than 800 KWh per month will see an increase in power prices of more than four times the market rate, according to the government.
According to that statement, no brownouts or electricity rationing were yet predicted.
For 2022, there will be a 9.5 percent index increase for old age pensions and a 7.5 percent increase for disability payments. The amount of financial aid provided to mothers of two children will rise by 10%.
Although no specific figures were provided, the majority of public sector employees would also get salary increases.
In addition, the monthly minimum salary will rise from 32,000 lek to 34,000 lek (289 euros or dollars).
The political opposition in Albania has put pressure on the government by pointing out that it was following the example set by other European governments in assisting their citizens in coping with the rising cost of living brought on by the energy crisis and inflation.
