Portuguese GDP increased by 7.1 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period in 2021, with no change from the first quarter.
The figures are based on a rapid estimate released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), which showed GDP growth of 6.9 percent year on year in the second quarter and a chain contraction of 0.2 percent.
According to INE, these preliminary estimates for the second quarter of 2022 reflect “in part a base effect, given that several measures were in place in the first quarter of 2021 to combat the pandemic that conditioned economic activity.”
