One out of every three enterprises polled are in danger of going out of business, according to a survey by Chamber of Trade Crafts and Small Business (OZS) members. The chamber encouraged the government to establish policies to support the economy in 2023 as soon as possible because the situation is expected to get worse.

The OZS observed a “enormous, even five-fold” increase in power and gas prices this year and expressed fears for 2023 in response to a similar call made by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS), its counterpart representing large corporations.

According to a recent study of 820 OZS entrepreneurs, three out of four believe that their profitability will be negatively impacted by high energy prices, and 32% believe that their company’s survival is in jeopardy.

Nearly one-third (29%) of respondents indicated they would have to reduce their operations, and 15% said they were thinking about layoffs.

More than half of the businesses polled (53%) reported an increase in electricity costs of up to 50% from the previous year, 29% reported an increase of 50–100%, and the remaining 18% reported increases of 100–500%.

69% of respondents polled said they have not yet signed agreements for power supply in 2023.

59% of respondents said their gas bills had gone up by up to 50%, 22% said their bills had gone up by up to 50%, and the remaining 19% said their bills had gone up by up to 100%.

According to the study, the OZS predicts that small business price caps will cover the majority of small business owners, but with larger users, the government package to assist firms in coping with high energy and gas prices would not be adequate.
