In June 2022 the number of employed persons increased, while unemployed and inactive people decreased in Italy.
On a monthly basis, the rise of employment (+0.4%, +86 thousand) concerned both genders and all age groups except 35-49 years. Overall, the employment rate grew to 60.1% (+0.2 p.p.).
In the last month, the slight decline of unemployed persons (-0.2%, -4 thousand) was recorded for women and over25 aged people. The unemployment rate remained stable at 8.1%, while the youth rate rose to 23.1% (+1.7 p.p.).
In June the decrease of inactive people aged 15-64 (-0.7%, -91 thousand) concerned both genders and people aged less than 50 years. The inactivity rate fell to 34.5% (-0.2 p.p.).
In the period April-June 2022, with respect to the previous quarter (January-March 2022), the employment rose (+0.4%, +90 thousand).
In the last three months, a drop was registered for both unemployed persons (-3.8%, -81 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 years (-0.5%, -61 thousand).
Compared with June 2021, the number of employed persons increased by 1.8% (+400 thousand), the growth concerning both genders and all age groups except 35-49 years; the employment rate showed an increase of 1.6 p.p. .
On a yearly basis, the rise of employed people was accompanied by a decrease of both unemployed persons (-13.7%, -321 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 (-3.0%, -400 thousand).
