Foreign Trade Indices in Türkiye, May 2022
As compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year, the overall export unit value index increased by 11.6% in May. In the same month, compared to May 2021, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels), fuels and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) increased by 10.6%, 14.4%, 87.5% and 8.3%, respectively.
The overall export volume index increased by 3.3%
The overall export volume index compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year increased by 3.3% in May. Compared with May 2021, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels), fuels and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) increased by 0.3%, 8.2%, 0.5% and 4.2%, respectively.

The overall import unit value index increased by 34.3%
As compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year, the overall import unit value index increased by 34.3% in May. The index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels), fuels and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) increased by 26.7%, 33.8%, 142.9% and 10.7%, respectively.
The overall import volume index increased by 6.8%
In May, the overall import volume index compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year increased by 6.8%. While the index for fuels decreased by 7.6%, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels) and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) increased by 55.9%, 4.1% and 5.7%, respectively.

The calendar and seasonally adjusted export volume index decreased by 9.3%
The calendar and seasonally adjusted export volume index which was 161.8 in April 2022, decreased by 9.3%, to 146.7 in May 2022. The calendar adjusted export volume index which was 145.1 in May 2021, increased by 1.2%, to 146.8 in May 2022.
The calendar and seasonally adjusted import volume index increased by 4.4%
The calendar and seasonally adjusted import volume index which was 110.8 in April 2022, increased by 4.4%, to 115.6 in May 2022. The calendar adjusted import volume index which was 114.6 in May 2021, increased by 5.1%, to 120.5 in May 2022.

Terms of trade was 76.2 in May 2022
Terms of trade is calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index, then multiplying the result by 100. While terms of trade was 91.6 in May 2021, it decreased by 15.4 points to 76.2 in May 2022.
