According to the annual Cost of Living Survey published by consulting firm Mercer, if you are an expat living in Hong Kong, Zurich, or Geneva, you are spending more money on your lifestyle than anybody else on the planet.

For the fourth time in five years, Hong Kong has been named the most expensive city in the world for expatriates. It is followed by four Swiss cities: Zurich, Geneva, Basel, and Bern.

Ankara, Turkey’s capital, topped a list of 227 cities as the most affordable for expats.

If you’re looking for a cheaper city to live in Europe, look east: Ankara is followed by Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and Islamabad and Karachi, Pakistan (224th and 223rd).

Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital, is the most expensive city for expats in the Nordics, ranking 11th globally, while Stockholm, Sweden’s capital, is the most affordable, dropping to 87th place in 2022.
Vancouver and Toronto in Canada, Stockholm in Sweden, Lisbon in Portugal, and Frankfurt in Germany are the lucky locations with the lowest cost of living but the highest quality of life.
