Prices rose 9.65% over the previous year in June in Belgium; inflation was still “just” 8.97% last month. For June, the Planning Office had anticipated a decline, but this didn’t occur. Since the beginning of last year, the inflation rate has been steadily increasing.

Inflation is still mostly being driven by energy prices. Overall, the cost of energy goods increased by more than 50% from the same time previous year. Prices for natural gas increased by 109 percent, or more. Diesel and gasoline prices increased by roughly 40%, while electricity increased in price by 50%.

There’s more, though. Food costs have increased recently as well. Alcohol included, food inflation increased to 8.44 percent in June. Compared to less than 0.5 percent in November of last year, this.

Some goods decreased in price, including televisions (-13%) and software (-10 percent). Clothing for both men and women experienced price reductions of 4 to 5 percent.
