In April 2022, the seasonally adjusted industrial production rose by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU, compared with March 2022, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In March 2022, industrial production fell by 1.4% in the euro area and by 1.0% in the EU.

In April 2022 compared with April 2021, industrial production decreased by 2.0% in the euro area and by 0.5% in the EU.

Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

In the euro area in April 2022, compared with March 2022, production of energy rose by 5.4%, intermediate goods by 0.7%, non-durable consumer goods by 0.4% and durable consumer goods by 0.2%, while production of capital goods fell by 0.2%.

In the EU, production of energy rose by 1.6%, non-durable consumer goods by 0.9% and intermediate goods and capital goods by 0.2%, while production of durable consumer goods fell by 0.1%.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases were registered in the Netherlands (+5.6%), Finland (+3.5%) and Luxembourg (+3.2%). The largest decreases were observed in Ireland (-9.6%), Greece (-7.4%) and Lithuania (-7.1%).

Annual comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

In the euro area in April 2022, compared with April 2021, production of capital goods fell by 9.0% and intermediate goods by 0.3%, while production of energy rose by 1.5%, non-durable consumer goods by 4.7% and durable consumer goods by 5.7%.

In the EU, production of capital goods fell by 7.5%, while production of intermediate goods rose by 0.5%, energy by 3.6%, durable consumer goods by 4.9% and non-durable consumer goods by 7.5%.
Among Member States for which data are available, the largest annual decreases were registered in Ireland (-30.9%), Slovakia (-9.6%) and Malta (-9.4%). The highest increases were observed in
Lithuania (+20.6%), Denmark (+17.0%) and Bulgaria (+16.9%).
