Staff shortages and rising energy costs are threatening tourism in Greece for the summer of 2022, officials have warned.
Tourism is Greece’s most important industry, accounting for a quarter of the country’s total revenue. Following the relaxation of all coronavirus-related restrictions, a record number of tourists are expected this year.
In a country with one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe, the lack of personnel seems shocking. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Greece is 12.8 percent, according to the most recent numbers from February. The unemployment rate among those aged 15 to 24 is 31.1 percent.
