International Trade in Services Statistics, 2018 in Turkey
Services exports were 33.8 billion dollars in 2018, and imports were 23.3 billion dollars
According to International Trade in Services Statistics (ITSS), while services exports were 27.6 billion dollars in 2016, it increased by 12.4% in 2017 to 31.0 billion dollars, and it increased by 9.0% to 33.8 billion dollars in 2018.
While service imports were $ 21.0 billion dollars in 2016, it increased by 6.2% in 2017 to $ 22.3 billion dollars, and in 2018, increased by 4.5% to $ 23.3 billion dollars.

Transportation services had the highest share in services exports
According to the Extended Balance of Payments Services Classification, the share of transportation in total exports was 73.0% in 2018. The “Other business services” was ranked at the second with 8.1% and “Telecommunication, computer and information services” was the third with the share of 4.3%.

Transport services exports increased
While services exports in transport, which accounted for nearly three-quarters of total service exports, were 19 billion 734 million dollars in 2016 and it was 22 billion 123 million dollars increased by 12.1% in 2017. Transport exports value was increased to 24 billion 664 million dollars by 11.5% in 2018.

Transportation services had the highest share in services imports
The share of transportation in total imports was 38.8% in 2018. The “Other business services” was ranked at the second with 21.4% and “Telecommunication, computer and information services” was the third with the share of 9.3%.

The exports and imports of services were made with Europe at most
Countries in the European continent became the leading group of countries in Turkey’s exports and imports of services. The European continent ranked first with the shares of 49.6% in 2016, 51.1% in 2017 and 52.9% in 2018 in terms of services exports; and the first in services imports with the same share as 56.7% in both 2016 and 2017 and 54.7% in 2018.
Services exports to the European Union and EFTA countries in 2018 were 15 billion 766 million dollars, while exports to other European countries were 2 billion 100 million dollars. Imports from the European Union and EFTA countries were 11 billion 975 million dollars, and from other European countries were 781 million dollars in 2018.

Europe (European Union and EFTA countries) was the group with the highest share in total services exports with the share of 46.6%.

Germany ranked first in services exports and the USA in services imports
While Germany took the first place for services exports with 4 billion 280 million dollars with the share of 12.7%, the USA ranked second with the share of 7.9% and the United Kingdom ranked third with the share of 5.4% in 2018.
The top country for Turkey’s services imports was the USA with the share of 10.3% and 2 billion 396 million dollars in 2018. Germany ranked second with the share of 8.9% and the United Kingdom ranked third with the share of 7.9% in 2018.

International trade in services (ITS) is the service trade between resident and non-resident natural or legal persons.
Tourism statistics are not in the coverage of ITSS.
Extended Balance of Payments Services Classification (EBOPS) which was in the Statistical Classifications Regulation published in the official newspaper No. 31022 (repeated) is used in ITSS.
European Union’s country and country group classification (Geonomenclature) is used. Economic and geographical country groups are also available.
