Mining establishments abstracted 249 million m3 of water
Mining establishments discharged 161 million m3 of wastewater
Mining establishments treated 14 million m3 of wastewater
Mining establishments generated 17 million tonnes of waste, excluding overburden
Mining establishments generated 812 million tonnes of waste, of which 99.9% was mineral waste. 97.9% of mineral waste was overburden. Out of total amount of waste, 71.2% was disposed of in heaps for overburden, tailing dam or controlled landfill site, 26.2% was used for backfilling and 2.6% was recovered or disposed of by other methods.

EXPLANATIONS
The scope of Mining Establishments Water, Wastewater and Waste Statistics Survey was mining establishments, which submitted production data for the year before the reference year to General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs or had a new licence for the reference year. Establishments dealing only with enrichment processes was out of scope.
