Culture spending increased by 23.4%
Cultural expenditures were 54 billion 383 million 287 thousand TL in 2018 with an increase of 23.4% compared to 2017.

Share of general government cultural expenditures was 64.3%
The 64.3% of the expenditures were the general government cultural expenditures and 35.7% were the private cultural expenditures.
General government cultural expenditures increased by 23.4%
Cultural expenditures in general government expenditures were 34 billion 950 million 410 thousand TL in 2018 with an increase of 23.4% compared to 2017.
The 66% of cultural expenditures made from central government budget
The 66% of the expenditures were made from the central government budget and 34% from the local government budget.
Share of architecture in general government expenditures was 35.9%
When expenditures distributed according to cultural areas in general government expenditures, the shares of these areas were as follows: Architecture 35.9%, books and print media 11.8%, performing arts 8.9%, audiovisual and multimedia 8.8%, natural heritage 7.4%, cultural heritage 5.8%.
Household cultural expenditures increased by 23.9%
Household cultural expenditures increased by 23.9% in 2018 compared to 2017 and were 18 billion 960 million 232 thousand TL. The 97.6% of private expenditures were made by households and 2.4% by associations and foundations.
The 25.8% of household cultural expenditure was made on television-TV broadcasting
When the distribution of the total cultural expenditure made by the households in 2018 was examined, the shares of the items were as follows: Television and TV broadcasting expenditures 25.8%, books, newspapers and magazines 16.5%, data processing equipment 13.3%, wired / private TV broadcasting service charges 10.7%, stationery and drawing materials 10.4% and cinema, theater and concert 6%.
The 39.8% of enterprises in the cultural sectors were active in architecture
When cultural sectors were evaluated in terms of their fields of activity; in 2018, 39.8% of enterprises were active in architecture, 15.6% in creative arts, performing arts and entertainment activities, 14.6% specialized design activities, 11.7% in cinema, video and television productions, music recording and publishing, 10.5% in publishing, 5.1% programming, broadcasting and news agency activities, 2.7% in other cultural areas.
Value-added of cultural sectors by factor cost increased by 5.7%
In 2018, the turnover value of the enterprises’ total cultural goods and services increased by 11.3% compared to 2017 and reached to 38 billion 991 million 137 thousand TL. In 2018, the value-added of the enterprises’ production of cultural goods and services increased by 5.7% to 9 billion 284 million 575 thousand TL.
The 23% of the value-added was in field of in cinema, video and television productions, music recording and publishing
When cultural sectors were evaluated in terms of distribution of value added; in 2018, 23% in cinema, video and television productions, music recording and publishing, 20.7% in produced in programming and broadcasting, news agency activities, 20.6% in architecture, 18.6% in publishing, 11.5% in creative arts, performing arts and entertainment, 5.6% in other cultural sectors.
Export value of cultural goods was 34 billion 16 million 42 thousand TL
Cultural exports increased by 37.9% in 2018 compared to 2017. The rate of increase was 38.9% for capital goods exports and 15.6% for secondary goods exports.
Share of cultural goods exports in total goods exports was 4.2%
In 2018, the share of cultural goods exports in total goods exports was 4.2%.
Import value of cultural goods was 22 billion 687 million 980 thousand TL
Import of cultural goods increased by 22.8% in 2018 compared to 2017. The import of capital goods was increased by 34.5% and import of secondary goods was increased by 16.6%. In 2018, the share of cultural goods imports in total goods imports was 2.2%.
Largest share in exports was in handicrafts
According to cultural areas, sum of exports of handicrafts which had the biggest share was 24 billion 997 million 962 thousand TL in 2018. The share of handicrafts in total cultural goods exports was 73.5%.
Largest share in imports was in the visual and auditory media
According to cultural areas, sum of imports of audio and visual media in 2018 was 10 billion 984 million 229 thousand TL. The share of the audiovisual media in total cultural goods imports was 48.4%.
